The North Gloucestershire Junior League is to encourage and develop junior golf. Participation is open to clubs or schools who can field a team of five junior players. The League is independent and NOT affiliated to any County Golf Union. The league has developed over 30 years from what started life as a Gloucestershire based league now includes teams from Gloucestershire and the surrounding counties placed in leagues on a geographic basis to minimise travelling. The Website was written for the NGJL by Russ & Mike Harper and rolled out for the NGJL in 2016. It was extended in early 2017 to accommodate the WMJGL and restructured as The Mercian Golf League Website.
The league was inaugurated in 1989 thanks to the initiative of John Statham of Shirley Golf Club in proposing the concept of the West Midlands Junior Golf League. . Then Moseley, Gay Hill and Olton Golf Clubs joined to form the West Midlands Junior Golf League with the aim of introducing competitive golf to young players. In 2017 the league joined the Mercian Junior Golf Umbrella Website.
